Speech & Language Therapy will always start with an assessment. This ensures the therapist has enough knowledge about the specific individual’s communication skills and challenges to be able to put together recommendations for a therapy plan.

The initial assessment session typically lasts 60 – 90 minutes. Jenny will take time to get to know you (as an adult client) or your child through conversation and clinical observation of communication skills in use.

Information gathered helps Jenny gain a full, comprehensive picture of each individual. This allows her to put together appropriate recommendations for future therapy.

Assessment is always a collaborative process, and there will be plenty of time for you to ask any questions you have about the therapy process.

A short report will be written after initial assessment and emailed to you. Completion of the assessment session, analysis of data gathered and writing of the report takes longer than preparation and follow up for therapy sessions, which is why assessment sessions are priced at a higher rate than therapy sessions.

If you require a detailed, longer report as part of the initial assessment, this can be provided for the above price.

Therapy sessions typically last 45-60 minutes per session and will be individually tailored to your (if an adult client), or your child’s needs.

It is always good practice to review progress at intervals during therapy. This allows an opportunity to discuss whether therapy is working out for you and to agree new goals moving forward (if further therapy is required).

Following review, a brief summary report will be written. If you require a more detailed report, there will be an additional charge for this to reflect the time taken to write it.

If you are accessing NHS Speech Therapy as well as getting support from Windmill Speech & Language Therapy, best practice means that I will need to communicate with your NHS therapist to ensure intervention recommendations align. Initial contact will be made by email, but at times a phonecall or video meeting is recommended if there is more to discuss. You may also wish me to arrange a meeting with your employer or HR department to discuss supporting your communication in work, or a meeting with key staff from your child’s school. Any phonecalls or meetings with other professionals / key people in your life will be agreed with you in advance (and only carried out with your consent). Liaison meetings and phonecalls will be charged at the following rates:

Up to 15 minutes duration: £10

15-30 minutes duration: £20

30-60 minutes duration: £30

Any online meeting or call lasting over an hour will incur an additional cost based on the pricing structure above.

Assessment, therapy sessions and meetings are typically carried out online via MSTeams. For clients within the South East Essex area, local to Windmill Speech & Language Therapy’s location, in person sessions or meetings with schools or employers can be discussed. These sessions will be charged at the same cost as online sessions, but an additional travel charge will be made at 55p per mile.
